At Violet’s Venom Brewery, we embrace the rich and often overlooked roots of brewing history. Long before the Reinheitsgebot (the German Beer Purity Law of 1516) and the rise of powerful brewing guilds, beer was crafted in kitchens and taverns by alewives—resourceful women who used bubbling cauldrons, herbs, grains, and creativity to nourish their families and communities. We lean into that tradition, celebrating the ingenuity and spirit of the pre-Guild, pre-Reinheitsgebot era. Unlike the post-Reinheitsgebot style, which limited beer to only water, barley, hops, and yeast, our brewing philosophy allows space for experimentation, story, and artistry. That means you’ll find beers at Violet’s Venom that highlight bold flavors, seasonal ingredients, and whimsical ideas that might not fit within traditional definitions—but absolutely fit within the joy of discovery. Just as alewives once blended herbs, fruits, and local flavors into their brews, we enjoy pushing boundaries, whether through unusual flavor pairings, small-batch creativity, or playful takes on classic styles. Our brewery is more than a place to drink—it’s a gathering spot where history, imagination, and community come together. Step into Violet’s Venom Brewery and taste beer as it was meant to be: inventive, alive, and rooted in centuries of brewing tradition, yet always evolving
